Grit, sheer stubbornness, and an enormous heart. That’s my takeaway after working with Sue Goyette, an award-winning poet currently based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Sue has published six books of poetry and a novel; she’s now also the editor of a new poetry anthology called Resistance: Righteous Rage in the Age of #Metoo.
Recently Sue decided it was time for poets to respond to the events surrounding the 2016 sexual assault trial of broadcaster Jian Ghomeshi. The trial unleashed a shitstorm of voices – women’s voices, voices that had been silenced, voices that demanded to be heard.
This book is gutsy, bold, courageous and necessary reading. It collects poems from writers across the globe who declare one common theme: resistance. Resistance is published by University of Regina Press.
Yes, I’ve got a poem in the collection.
Yes, I’m proud to see my poem speak up for every human being’s right to say NO.
You can find out more about the anthology here: https://uofrpress.ca/Books/R/Resistance. The foreword, written by Sue, is worth the price of the book.
